O The Sword é mais uma dessas bandas "novas" que fazem som retrô e que, por sinal, é de altíssima qualidade. Iniciaram suas atividades em 2003, em Austin, Texas, fazendo um doom metal "épico", especialmente devido à sua temática. Em 2004 lançaram sua primeira demo, em 2005 lançaram outra e finalmente debutaram em 2006, com seu álbum Age of Winters. Desde então, lançaram 3 singles, um split com o Witchcraft (outra banda que certamente vai aparecer por aqui), para então lançar seu último álbum, esse ano, sob o nome de Gods of The Earth.
